In July of 1997 Kim, Ronni, Brent and I drove from Maryland to Ouray, Colorado for the first annual 80 Series Landcruiser Rally. We 4 wheeled around the mountains of Colorado for 1 week. Below are some pictures.
Highway and clouds. This flat road was Rt. 70 in eastern Colorado,
before hitting Denver.
Rain in the distance.
Our first camping spot, next to a gravel road south of Denver.
The overnight rates were excellent there.
Bart Chow in dark green, followed by Dimitry Struve, then Rick Hofer.
Approaching the Red Moutains. Ren Finley's grey cruiser is in the lower
right, soon to be in the upper left.
Joe Chott and his wife, Pam, who is driving. Notice the custom
skidplate and bumper.
Anohter of Joe Chott's truck, sans fender flares, and with custom nerf
bars.
Our fearless leader, Steve Comstock. Always trying to gain a dominant
position.
Ren Finley.
Ken Stewart, and wife Suzan.
Bart Chow's truck on a cool looking slope.
Coming down Black Bear. Downward slanted steps with gravel on them,
and a cliff at the bottom. No worries, right?
A view of the awaiting cliff on Black Bear.
Me in the base of the waterfall on Black Bear. That water was
so cold it was painful. The cliff in the previous picture was at the top
of this waterfall.
A view of Telluride from the base of the waterfall at Black Bear.
Going down Poughkipsie Gulch. George Couyant in background with
video camera, Ken Stewart spotting.
Up Poughkipsie Gulch.
A traffic jam, waiting for an Australian tourist in a GMC Jimmy at
the front to move out.
My truck in the same meadow.
One flower stands out prettier than the rest.
En route to Yankee Boy Basin.
Ronni crossing a river, leaving Yankee Boy basin.
Awe . . . Gag.
Buddy and Ronni after sitting in the car for too long.
Rocky route on Ophir pass.
Kim, getting rambunctious. Brent, the unexpecting victim.
Me and Dinty Moore.
A roasting action shot.
Leaving the camping spot.
